KAPI ÖNÜ HAYATLAR / DOORSTEP LIVES

Bu sergimde her zaman hayran olduğum ve ne yazık ki yavaş yavaş yok oluşuna da tanık olduğum bir durumu belgelemek istedim. Burdur’a ve diğer küçük şehirlere has, bir kapı önü yaşantı durumu… Özellikle tek katlı evlerde görülen, ama sadece onlarla sınırlı kalmayan, sokağa açılıverme hali. Hayır, ev önündeki bahçelerden bahsetmiyorum. Bahçeler ev sahiplerine özeldir. Burada farklı bir durum var. Bahsettiğim, kapı önüne atılıvermiş bir kanepe, sandalye ve minder gibi oturma çözümleri. Ev sahibine hizmet ediyor ancak kamuya da ait. Gelen geçen rahatlıkla oturabilir, yorulmuşsa soluklanabilir, ev sahibiyle sohbet edebilir. Bu sandalye, minder, kanepe vs. oturan ev sahibi veya kişi / kişiler neredeyse sokağın içinde. Onlar da gelen geçene laf atıyor, çocuklarla konuşuyor, komşularıyla sosyalleşiyor. Özellikle yazın resmen sokakta yaşıyor insanlar. Yemekler yapıp beraber yiyor. Tabi ki çaylar içiliyor. Bahçe böyle değildir. Hala bir özel alan durumu vardır. Yoldan geçen yabancı, bir evin bahçe kapısını açıp girip oturamaz. Özel alanın ihlali olur bu. Buradaysa bu oturma çözümleri herkese ait gibi. Tek başına yaşayan yaşlı kadınlar gördüm, hava da iyiyse tüm gün kapı önünde etrafı seyrediyordu. İnsanlar dışarı sadece öylesine bir sandalye vs atmamıştı. Kapı önünde bahçesi olmasa bile, ortamı güzelleştirmeye çalışıyor, leğenlerde sebze, çiçek yetiştiriyor. Artık sosyalleşmenin ortadan kalktığı, insanların kalabalık apartmanlarda komşularını bile tanımadan yaşadığı metropollerin aksine, kapı önünü sokağın yerlisine / yabancısına açmış bu yaşantı tarzı belgelenmeyi hak ediyor. Ancak bu sergide insanlara değil, bu ortamı yaratmak için buldukları çözümlere odaklandım. Yani bu serginin konusu sandalyeler, koltuklar, kanepeler, tuğlalar, minderler… İnsanlar üzerindeyken özellikle çekmedim, çünkü o durumda kişiler ön plana çıkacak ve oturma çözümlerini kapatacaktı. Oysa ben bir heykel veya enstalasyon gibi onları sergilemek istiyorum. Çekimler sırasında insanları da fotoğrafladım. Ortamın sıcaklığını verebilmek için birkaç tane fotoğraf koyuyorum. Fotoğraflarının çekilmesine izin veren kişilere de buradan teşekkür ederim. Kültürel miras çalışan biri olarak Burdur’un kaybolmakta olan değerlerini elimden geldiğince kaydetmeye çalışıyorum. Bu evler ve “Kapı Önü Hayatlar” da zamanla yerini yeni apartmanlara bırakıyor. Tarihe bir kayıt düşmüş olayım. Bu sergiyi de koşturmanın aksine sakinliği tercih eden, keyfine, rahatına düşkün Burdur’lulara ithaf ediyorum.

In this exhibition, I wanted to document a situation that I have always admired and, sadly, have witnessed slowly disappearing. It is a situation unique to Burdur and other small towns: life in front of the door... It is particularly seen in single-story houses, but it is not limited to them; it is a state of opening up to the street. No, I am not talking about the gardens in front of the houses. Gardens are private to homeowners. Here, the situation is different. What I'm talking about are seating solutions like a sofa, chair, and cushion thrown out in front of the door. They serve the homeowner but also belong to the public. Passersby can sit comfortably, take a break if they are tired, and chat with the homeowner. The homeowner or person(s) sitting on these chairs, cushions, sofas, etc. are practically in the street. They also chat with passersby, talk to children, socialize with neighbors. Especially in summer, people literally live on the street. They cook meals and eat together. Of course, tea is drunk. A garden is not like this. It is still a private space. A stranger passing by cannot open the garden gate of a house and sit down. That would be an invasion of privacy. Here, however, these seating solutions seem to belong to everyone. I have seen elderly women living alone, sitting in front of their doors all day long, watching the surroundings when the weather is nice. People didn't just throw a chair or something outside for no reason. Even if they don't have a garden in front of their door, they try to beautify the environment, growing vegetables and flowers in tubs. Unlike metropolises where socializing has disappeared and people live in crowded apartment buildings without even knowing their neighbors, this lifestyle, which opens the doorstep to locals and strangers alike, deserves to be documented. However, in this exhibition, I focused not on the people, but on the solutions they found to create this environment. So the subject of this exhibition is chairs, armchairs, sofas, bricks, cushions... I deliberately avoided photographing people sitting on them, because in that case, the people would come to the fore and obscure the seating solutions. I wanted to exhibit them like a sculpture or installation. I also photographed people during the shoot. I am including a few photos to convey the warmth of the environment. I would like to thank the people who allowed me to take their photos. As someone who works with cultural heritage, I try to document Burdur's disappearing values as best I can. These houses and “Life in Front of the Door” are gradually giving way to new apartment buildings. Let this be a record for history. I dedicate this exhibition to the people of Burdur, who prefer tranquility over hustle and bustle, who are devoted to their pleasure and comfort.

Dokuz Eylül Üniversitesi Güzel Sanatlar Fakültesi Fotoğraf Bölümü'nü birincilikle bitirdi. Aynı üniversitenin Film Tasarmı Bölümü'nde yüksek lisansını tamamladı. Yaklaşık 20 yıl reklam ve video prodüksiyon şirketlerinde hareketli görüntü tasarımcısı olarak çalıştıktan sonra profesyonel hayatına akademide devam etmeye karar verdi. İstanbul Üniversitesi İletişim Fakültesi Radyo, TV ve Sinema Bölümü'nde doktorasını tamamladı. Yüksek lisans ve doktora tezleri "sanal gerçeklik sistemleri (VR)" üzerinedir. Nişantaşı Üniversitesi ve İstanbul Üniversitesi'nde Bilgisayar Destekli Animasyon, Grafik Tasarım ve Animasyon, Özel Efekt Tasarımı, Dijital Kurgu ve Temel Fotoğrafçılık derslerini yürüttü. Halen Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy Üniversitesi'nde öğretim üyesi olarak çalışmaktadır.

She graduated first in her class from the Photography Department of the Faculty of Fine Arts at Dokuz Eylül University. She completed her master's degree in the Film Design Department at the same university. After working as a motion graphics designer in advertising and video production companies for approximately 20 years, she decided to continue her professional life in academia. She completed her doctorate at Istanbul University's Faculty of Communication, Department of Radio, TV, and Cinema. Her master's and doctoral theses are on “virtual reality systems (VR)”. She taught Computer-Aided Animation, Graphic Design and Animation, Special Effects Design, Digital Editing, and Basic Photography courses at Nişantaşı University and Istanbul University. She currently works as a faculty member at Burdur Mehmet Akif Ersoy University.
